Sound Artist, Computer Musician, Researcher
David pirro

David Pirrò is a sound artist and researcher based in Graz. Pirrò studied Physics at the University of Trieste where he obtained a Master’s degree in theoretical physics. In 2007 he obtained a Master’s degree from the School of Music and New Technologies at the Conservatory “G. Tartini” in Trieste. Since 2007 he has been a lecturer and researcher at the IEM. His works include interactive compositions and sound installations as well as audiovisual and electroacoustic pieces. Further, Pirrò has been part of scientific and artistic research projects on sonification, sound spatialization and interaction design. He recieved a PhD with distinction in Computer Music from the KUG. Currently, he is a senior scientist at IEM. Informed by his backgrounds in computational physics and computer music, Pirrò’s artistic practice has developed around the experience, composition and simulation of dynamical systems: a practice in which the technological-scientific and the aesthetic perspectives diffract in the formation of the artistic artefact. As principal investigator in the artistic research project "Algorithms That Matter" (ALMAT), he has recently been researching the entanglement of the artistic practice of sound art and algorithmic processes. Since 2022 he is principal investigator of the project "Speculative Sound Synthesis".
