Gabriele Boccio

Born in Terni (ITA) in 1996, he earned Master's degrees cum laude in Electronic Music under Agostino Di Scipio and in Cello under Matteo Scarpelli at the Conservatory of L'Aquila. He received a diploma of merit in the advanced course in Live Electronics taught by Alvise Vidolin and Nicola Bernardini at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, and has taken part in seminars led by figures such as Curtis Roads, John Chowning, and Barry Truax, among others. In 2017, for the Società Aquilana dei Concerti, he realised a version for cello and live electronics of Karlheinz Stockhausen's Solo. Three-time finalist in the Electronic Music category of the National Arts Prize (2019, 2022, and 2023), in 2022 he served on the conservatories' jury at the Venice Biennale Musica. His compositions have been performed at national and international festivals, including Nuova Consonanza, the Chigiana Festival, ArteScienza, Ecos Urbanos (Mexico), and MUSLAB (Ecuador).

As artistic researcher, his theoretical-analytical, musicological, and interdisciplinary writings have appeared in editorial and scholarly venues of international standing, such as the journal Musica/Realtà (Libreria Musicale Italiana). He is the author of papers published in the proceedings of international conferences, including those organised by GATM (Salerno, 2025) and by EMS – Electroacoustic Music Studies Network (Sorbonne University and Université Gustave Eiffel, Paris). Since 2024, he has been enrolled in a PhD programme in Artistic Research in Music and Musical Aesthetics at the Conservatory "Alfredo Casella" in L'Aquila (IT), where his work investigates performance and compositional practices for bowed string instruments with live electronics.
