Philippe Druez is a multidisciplinary artist, researcher, and electronic media practitioner based in Ghent, Belgium. His practice spans sound art, electronic music, interactive installation, performance, and critical media practices. He began his artistic and research career through his own company, developing innovative technologies and interactive narratives for museums and heritage institutions in Belgium and internationally.
Since 2014, he has focused exclusively on an interdisciplinary artistic practice situated at the intersection of art, science and academia, producing layered, poetic, interactive, and participatory works that privilege organism over mechanism. His research explores relations between society, ecology, and communication across human and more-than-human worlds.
Druez has studied Computer Science, Philosophy, Film Semiology, Artificial Neural Networks, and Fine Arts. He is currently a doctoral researcher in Systematic Musicology, investigating object-oriented approaches to three-dimensional sound, at the IPEM XRHIL research group, Ghent University, and KASK & Conservatorium, School of Arts.
