I found my vocation first in art, and then in academia and my career progression reflects that. I like an adventure and have made art in remote or difficult to access environments like Death Row at San Quentin State Prison, on board a parabolic aeroplane owned by the Russian Space Agency and flown 23 ft up to the edge of space, and a rural prepper site in South Dakota ¾ the size of Manhattan. I make portraits of subjects that are at the periphery of our everyday experience and I employ film, photography, collage, embroidery and writing to make them familiar and encourage empathy towards them. Current project is The Post Apocalyptic Archive/We Are The Anti-Truth, drawn from the testimonies of outsiders.
