Stefan Maier (b. 1990) is a composer based in Vancouver, Canada — the unceded, traditional territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. His installations, performances, and compositions explore the unruly flows of sonic matter through sound systems, instruments, software, and bodies, to uncover minor histories, sonic fictions, and alternate modes of listening and authorship. Stefan works fluidly between experimental electronic music, multi-media installation, and contemporary classical music. His work has been presented by Haus der Kulturen der Welt (DE), INA-GRM (FR), National Music Centre (CA), Liquid Architecture (AU), Gaudeamus Muziekweek (NL), Ultima festival (NO), Festival D'Automne (FR), and MONOM (DE), among many others. He has held residencies and fellowships at the Macdowell Colony (USA), NOTAM (NO), IAC Malmö (SE), Electronmusikstudion EMS (SE), and the Danish Sound Art Lab (DK). He has released collaborative and solo records on Portraits GRM/Shelter Press, Dinzu Artefacts and Party Perfect. Stefan is an assistant professor of Sound at the School for the Contemporary Art at Simon Fraser University.
